Lucie Pohl’s second Edinburgh Fringe hit, “Cry Me a Liver” was a very entertaining, impressive, and enjoyable hour—recently receiving 5 stars from Mirror Daily, with more reviews to come! It showcased several eclectic personalities from New York City including but not limited to a savvy homeless man, a rich white girl, a lonely Italian man, a German motivational speaker, a very demanding mother, and even the sperm of Vladimir Putin. Her incredible ability to capture the essence of each character’s background made for an authentic experience. I think what made her show really admirable was all of her different accents and voices. She never left character until the skit was complete and then quickly transitioned into the next. Another notable aspect of the show was when an unexpected interruption occurred. Lucie’s character did not falter—she even responded professionally to the audience member, lightening the mood.

Her show was truly impressive to watch—highly recommended. After the show had ended we finally saw the real Lucie when she thanked the audience for their attendance—almost a full house! We met with Lucie and her director, Jessi D. Hill, in the bar at the venue. Lucie is very friendly—she quickly befriends everyone and anyone within minutes. I watched her greet mostly everyone we passed as well as introduce herself to individuals whom she wasn’t familiar with. Her genuine personality makes any interaction with her enjoyable. Lucie is great to work with because she is willing to let us, as students, learn as we help with her show. Not only is Lucie a great performer, she is a great person too. She is truly a joy to be with. |
